Here is a handy chart for needles and threads. Sometimes you just forget what is the best tool to use for hand or machine stitchery. Types of threads to use in quilting and embroidery: - Cotton – cotton fabrics
- Quilting cotton – has a slick wrap around cotton for ease in stitching layers of fabrics
- Polyester – stretchy fabrics
- All purpose – for all fabrics
- Fine cotton or silk thread- best for delicate fabrics
- Silk threads - stretch fabrics
- Metallic – great for decorating
- Rayon – embroidery. Excellent for machine embroidery.
Types of needles: - Sharp - for cotton fabrics because it will penetrate the fiber strand
- Ball point – for synthetic fibers because it separates and stitches between the strands of fiber
- Metallic – the design of the needle eye allows the thread to pass with less breakage

Michael Emerald Thank you for your agreeable comments on hobbies and interests. Overall life would be very boring if one did not pursue their personal interests or their hobbies. Pleasure puts a song in our hearts and makes our day lighter. If I may ask, what hobbies or interests do you participate in?

Finding hobbies or recreation and leisure activities involves doing what you love and enjoy. Most people know what hobby they would like to pursue, but what if you do not know? Think back to when you were a child and you had a wish. If that wish is still unfulfilled, would you like to know how you are able to pursue it today? Perhaps your childhood wish and fun interest was to travel around the world and you feel denied because you were never able do so and you do not see how it can be accomplished. Paths to explore to make your wish possible - Lack of funds should never be an excuse for not fulfilling a hobby interest. Work in the industry. No job is too small to meet your goals.
- The world of dreams and fantasy make wishes real.
- Finding hobbies is putting your curiosity to work. Ask questions from those who share your interests.
How can you travel? - Mentally travel via books, magazines, and maps
- Travel videos and DVDs
- Visit airports, train terminals, shipping docks, and bus stops
- Become a traveling companion
***Make a list of your talents and skills This list is the most important visual aid for finding “now” and future hobbies. An error which I have observed is people trying to select hobby ideas from a stereotyped list or to have a friend pull them into their interests. In both cases they have been disappointed. This hobbies or recreational and leisure activities list must be born from your brain with its ability to create and imagine. Another disappointment is to butterfly from one hobby to another. It will become emotionally, mentally, physically, financially, and time expensive. The wish hobbies list needs to be your personal favorites. It is this list which will start to make your childhood fantasy a reality. Your hobbies and interests list may include sports, arts and crafts, pets, recreational and leisure activities Hobbies can be used for personal pleasure or become a home based business or a business opportunity. Finding hobbies for either purpose will open a world of pleasure or business opportunities. - Hand beading: Beading like quilting can be done by hand which makes it a portable hobby.
- Machine beading: The computerized sewing machine and its specialty attachments and software can perform many of these hand arts with speed.
Other types of traditional beading methods are: loom work, knitting, crocheting, tatting, needlepoint, cross stitch, embroidery, tambour work, and quilting. What types of stitching techniques are to be learned in the art of beading? Brick and ladder, ladder, peyote or gourd stitch, herringbone, right angle weave, and bead netting.
