Tip of the Day

Wake up artists

I am speaking directly with artists in this write-up.  Wake up!
It is time to get creative with what you have on hand. Take whatever hobby you have and get to work creating a new look. These times may be financially tough or mentally worrisome; however, this is not the time to give power to excuses or negative thinking.  Apply your talents to new ideas. Start new construction or new projects.

Allow me to help you think.Do you have?

  1. A project which you started years ago and never finished
  2. A new invention which was never completed
  3. Ideas for new products or new services
  4. Time to experiment with your creative thoughts
  5. Challenged to create from recycled items
  6. New interests which are birthing and need to be nurtured

Keeping our minds and our bodies occupied with activities or action which uses our talents is vital for our lifestyles. Keeping our creativity active is our lifeline to maintain self sanity and readiness to face our daily lives.

The most important “thing” which will emerge from this activity is a new positive path for a personal or a business opportunity. And it was all because of a hobby.

Needles and threads for embroidery

Here is a handy chart for needles and threads. Sometimes you just forget what is the best tool to use for hand or machine stitchery.

Types of threads to use in quilting and embroidery:

  • Cotton – cotton fabrics
  • Quilting cotton – has a slick wrap around cotton for ease in stitching layers of fabrics
  • Polyester – stretchy fabrics
  • All purpose – for all fabrics
  • Fine cotton or silk thread- best for delicate fabrics
  • Silk threads - stretch fabrics
  • Metallic – great for decorating
  • Rayon – embroidery. Excellent for machine embroidery.

Types of needles:

  • Sharp - for cotton fabrics because it will penetrate the fiber strand
  • Ball point – for synthetic fibers because it separates and stitches between the strands of fiber
  • Metallic – the design of the needle eye allows the thread to pass with less breakage

What Is The Best Price To Pay For Golfballs?

Price of golf balls equals performance levels.

$12 per dozen is great for beginners and novices.

$30 a dozen are preferred by intermediate level

$45 dollars or more for a dozen is for the advanced or professionals.

These are average prices, shop for the best price you can get.

Types of Golf Balls To Better Your Game

Most golfers play with a two piece design. It has a rubber core center and one outer wrap of plastic or rubber. This design is excellent for men, women, and children. The ball will shoot straighter, and it has less spin so when you hit a slice or a hook it does not look too bad. The ball is designed for durability and distance.

As an advanced golfer you would probably prefer a ball that has been wrapped three times or a hybrid design. This ball has a rubber core, covered by a layer of plastic or rubber and then a third layer wrap. It is hard in consistency and will allow for better performance. It will travel longer distances, and has less spin in the hands of golfer with good control.

The professionals play with design having been wrapped three or possibly four times to get the high swing speed and the drop and stop action.

In case you should ask, if the beginner, intermediate, or an advanced player chooses to play with a golf ball used by professional golfers you will get the distance, however, if you lack control the golf ball will slice and hook badly or extremely.

Develop Core Strength in Lower Abdominals

Golfers...here is a simple exercise to help develop core strength in your lower abdominals.

Doing this exercise will correct spinal alignment and give power to your drive.

  1. Lie flat on your back on an exercise mat
  2. Raise both legs upward
  3. Extend your right arm above your head while extending your left leg forward to full extension
  4. Return your right arm and left leg into starting piosition then extend your left arm above your head while extending your right leg forward to full extension
  5. Alternate this pattern

You will probably move slowly at first because of the needed coordination, but before long it will be mechanical.

You will feel the burn...

Word of advice: Do a few repetions to start. As you build your core strength do more reps.

Grip Your Driver

Grip your driver correctly as a poor grip will produce many errors. A correct grip brings success.

  1. Start with correct stance at tee.
  2. Visualize and make a mental note for the target
  3. Focus your attention on the ball
  4. Rotate your head, chest and rotate as one unit on the takeaway
  5. Remain upright after finanlizing the swing.

Your grip holds the club with the upper fingers, not your palms. The fingers allow free wrist action for better driver control.

Your grip should not be too loose or too tight. Find a reasonable hold in between loose and tight. The grip pressure is also essential. Try either the overlap or the interlocking grip.

The grip pressure should be enough for you to hold onto the club while in action, but at the same time allow a free pendulum like swing to allow a hinge like mobility so that the club face will strike the right spot on the golf club and give you the end result of landing the ball at the designated target site.

If the grip pressure is too tight tension will be created in the forearm. This tension will misdirect the swing and the ball will not land in the designated target.

You want driver control in order for the club face to hit the sweet spot on the golf ball and control the direction of the ball into the designated target.

These tips should help quite a bit. Enjoy your golf game today. For additional information click here

Wipe Your Canvas Clean

Did you know that you can remove an entire layer of paint from your canvas with a turpentine rag while the oil paint is wet? This is the best time to remove paint.

If oil paint is dry and hardened it will need to be scraped. Good luck with this. Products are now available to help soak oil out of the canvas. But scraping will still be necessary. When scraping do not scratch the fibers of the canvas open. If the canvas fibers are damaged; toss the canvas into the trash can.

Make Quilting Templates

Quilting templates may be purchased from a store or from online resources, however, there are times when the template is unique or it is cheaper to make your own.

Here is a list of materials from which quilting templates or patterns may be made from. It goes without saying you will need to select what will be appropriate for your needs.

Paper - standard, tracing, freezer - toss after using once or twice
Cardboard - cereal boxes and like containers - one time use because of fraying and inaccurate measurements if used repeatedly.
File folder - paper and plastic
Acrylic - Light weight to extra thick - translucent, reusable, will not fray, great for stencils
Plastic - gridded pattern available for more accuracy. Save and use lids or containers from margarine bowls, sour cream containers, plastic bacon inserts, bakery containers, etc.
Mylar - heat resistent and hot glue gun friendly
Metal - will last a very long time, reusable.
